Food and Nutrition Services
Welcome to the Food and Nutrition Services at Mare Island Tech Academy and MIT Academy! Our delightful and nutritious meals are made fresh daily from a specialized vendor. All food items are prepared to be completely compliant. They provide us with several food options for breakfast and lunch.
Our delicious and nutritional menu includes a choice of fresh salad or sandwiches or a choice from 2 of our hot items. For those who do not prefer meat products, we do have specific entrees that are served. Please check our menu for when those items are served. However, since the items are already meal compliant we still provide a salad bar that is made daily with fresh fruits and vegetables, and on certain days, a fresh salad is made.
Add anything on the salad bar to your entrée, or make a meal from it and add any of the 3 options of milk; fat free, 1%, or chocolate milk to make it compliant. The salad bar just an addition to the Offer Versus Serve requirement. All meals are prepared to meet all USDA food guidelines.
Breakfast is served daily every morning at 7:30 a.m. before school. We also have a 2nd chance breakfast where students have the opportunity to eat if they missed the first breakfast.
There is no 2nd chance breakfast on Wednesdays due to minimum day schedule.
Lunch for Middle School starts at 11:40 a.m.-12:20 p.m. Those students with I.D.’s go first and all others with temporary I.D.’s for the day come at 11:45 a.m. High School lunch starts at 12:36 p.m.-1:16 p.m. Seniors have priority to come in 5 minutes before to get their lunch before all the rest. Students with I.D.’s come first and those without I.D.’s are welcome to come after 12:45 p.m.
Meal Program and Lunch Accounts
If you wish to apply for the Free and Reduced Meal Program please pick up an application from the Main Office H1 ½, or print one out from the Link below and fill it out. You can drop it off in the Main Office or to Ms. Claudine Ayers, Food Service Coordinator, in the MPR. The Free and Reduced Meal Program is available and we encourage for everyone to apply. Qualifications are based on Household income eligibility or through specific County or State services.
All Paid students should put money on their Student Account in H1 with Ms. Amrita before or after school, or at lunch. Parents can check their student’s lunch account balances on-line through PowerSchool.
We also have a snack cart that sells A la Carte items for those who do not wish to participate in the breakfast or lunch program. It is run through the Food Service Department and they are all Smart Snack products specifically for school compliant regulations. The snack cart only takes cash.
After School Program
Griffin Technology Academies also provides After School Snacks provided that the students are enrolled in the After School Program. This is also part of the NSLP and is compliant by USDA regulations and meal compliant. Dinners are part of the CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) and also served after school and also through the After School Program. Please contact Ms. Gailyn Birkeland for information on how to enroll in the After School Program.
