2018-2019 Lottery Update

The MIT lottery for 2018-2019 enrollment will be held Friday, March 9 at 6:00 pm in the MPR.

Applicants do NOT have to be present; results will be on the website around 7:00 pm and all admitted students will be notified by mail the week of March 12th.

MIT Academy:

Note that due to high retention rate of our current 6th-11th graders (99%), only the 6th grade lottery will be for placements; 7th – 11th grade will be for waiting list positions only.

Our 2018-2019 6th-grade class will consist of 145 students. There are 47 siblings that are automatically enrolled, plus 34 local students, thereby resulting in 64 actual 6th-grade openings. Since there were 264 6th-grade applicants, subtracting the pre-enrollments leaves 183 applicants for the 64 remaining openings. Note that students not admitted directly at MIT Academy via the lottery (unless successfully enrolled at Griffin Academy as their first choice) will be placed on the priority waiting list in order by their lottery number.

Griffin Academy:

At Griffin Academy, the lottery will be held for 6th and 7th grade.

The 6th-grade class will consist of 58 students, and the 7th-grade class will consist of 87 students for a total of 145 students for Griffin Academy's first year. For the 6th grade, there will be 2 children of staff members plus 1 local student which will result in 55 actual draws. There will be 87 draws for the 7th grade. Students not admitted directly at Griffin Academy via the lottery (unless successfully enrolled at MIT Academy as their first choice) will be placed on the priority waiting list in order by their lottery number.

Waiting List:

Students who are still on the waiting list in January 2019 will be encouraged to reactivate their application so as to keep their relative status for the following year.

Students who are placed on the waiting list are encouraged to apply to Caliber Charter School, Vallejo Charter School, Loma Vista middle school, and Mare Island Health & Fitness Academy, all of which have 6-8 programs. By applying at VCUSD, Caliber, or any other school, you will not lose your waiting list position.
